Sailesh Abernethy’s breakout season rose to new heights last weekend. The youngster moved to the head of the junior driver’s premiership with a treble at Cambridge last Thursday. The younger brother of Trainer and successful driver Jay, Sailesh moved to 29 wins for the season, three clear on the junior premiership. He reined Pretty Sunday to win for his brother before a well-judged drive behind the tricky Heart Of Jessie for Andrew Grant. And then capped his new found role as the punter’s friend when he got hot favorite Splendor home over 2700m in the last race on the cards. With the northern ranks having been shorn of the likes of Simon Lawson, Josh Dickie and Zac Butcher in the last two season, the arrival of Abernethy and Andre Poutama on the scene has been timely.
