Sliver Stream has become one of New Zealand trotting’s most unlikely open-class graduates. The South Auckland veteran started his 9-year-old season the winner of just four races after a busy career for owner-breeder Alek Goryl.
Since joining new trainer Jay Abernethy he has won another seven races, most of them on the grass, promoting him to open class and making him eligible for the Rowe Cup on May 9.
Sliver Stream achieved the incredibly rare feat of overcoming a 40m handicap to win over just over 2100m at Hawera on Saturday before winning again over 3000m off a 50m handicap on Monday.
